MEMBERZ SYNDICATE
THE NEW SOUND OF CANADIAN REGGAE

The current 6-person core lineup of The Memberz Syndicate has been active in Toronto’s thriving Reggae community since 2015. Bandleader and keyboardist Garfield “Roscoe” Christie is best known as a founding member of iconic 1980s and 90s Canadian Reggae band 20th Century Rebels.  Guitarist Paul Corby has been playing since the 1970s with legends of the music such as Leroy Sibbles and Ernie Smith. Vocalist and frontman Michael “Mavriq” Brown has shared the stage with the likes of Elephant Man, Tanto Metro, Devonte, Leroy Gibbons, and Spice. Saxophonist Christopher Brophy is best known for his collaboration with UK electronica pioneer Matthew Herbert. Keyswoman Charmazelle is an integral part of all-female Reggae supergroup Rayzalution.

The Memberz Syndicate is a truly collaborative ensemble, incorporating influences from their diverse experiences to create compelling and infectious Reggae music infused with dancehall, R&B, soul and pop influences. The album “Set Dem Free” has been a decade in the making, crafted one song at a time. Along the way, the band has released four singles – “King’s Highway”, “Work It Out”, “What A Joy” (featuring 6-time Juno award winner Exco Levi) and most recently “Addis Ababa”, a song which well-respected Toronto reggae radio host DJ Chocolate called “Addis Ababa” “the best Canadian reggae song she has heard in years”. The Memberz have achieved radio airplay and rotation across Canada, South and East Africa and the UK; and performed at clubs all over Toronto including The Rivoli, The Garrison, BSMT 254 and Drom Taberna. Their 2016 debut single “King’s Highway” achieved over 23,000 plays when it was premiered on global Reggae community hub Reggaeville.com. This year, “Addis Ababa” is nominated for Best Traditional Dancehall Song by the Reggae North Music Awards.

The Memberz Syndicate  have an ambitious goal to redefine how international audiences see and hear Canadian Reggae music. The band’s long-term ambition is to tour across Canada starting in late 2025, and then internationally to the UK, Africa and Europe in the years ahead.
